The Dixie Chicks are an American country music band which has also crossed over into other genres. The band is composed of founding members (and sisters) Martie Erwin Maguire and Emily Erwin Robison, and lead singer Natalie Maines. The band formed in 1989 in Dallas,Texas and was originally composed of four women performing bluegrass and country music, busking and touring the bluegrass festival circuits and small venues for six years without attracting a major label. After the departure of one band mate, the replacement of their lead singer, and a slight change in their repertoire, the Dixie Chicks soon achieved commercial success, beginning in 1998 with hit songs “There’s Your Trouble” and “Wide Open Spaces“.

During a London concert ten days before the 2003 invasion of Iraq, lead vocalist Maines said, “we don’t want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States [George W. Bush] is from Texas”. The positive reaction to this statement from the British audience contrasted with the boycotts that ensued in the U.S., where “the band was assaulted by talk-show conservatives“, while their albums were discarded in public protest.

As of 2011, the Dixie Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards, including five in 2007 for Taking the Long Way—which received the Grammy Award for Album of the Year—and “Not Ready to Make Nice“, a single from that album. By July 2010, with 30.5 million certified albums sold, and sales of 26,733,000 albums in the U.S. alone, they had become the top selling all-female band in the U.S. during the Nielsen SoundScan era

My Thoughts….Embarrassment an unseen Red Face

Yesterday I was having a conversation with a fellow blogging friend, we were discussing the sound of a female singer, who we both liked and who did she reminded us of. After bantering several names back an forth we could not get a name, Sheryl Crow was mentioned and was a close match, but we knew she was not the one. But for the life of us we could not think of the person or persons. I had mentioned a female band, country-style and then gave my friend a few other hints/clues, and as it was I was wrong with these clues, apart from the fact there were sisters in the band. We both did searches on YouTube,Wikipedia, putting in the search everything from sisters and bands. Got all sorts of results, none of which were correct. We included American rock, country, female singers, and bands and variations and similar words in the search bar. Still nothing. Frustrations creeping, beginning to think I had imagined all this, there was no such band.  and was I now touching madness, on the edge of insanity.

But today 17th Oct.. I started thinking about this again, and in Google I typed female bands, and opened several pages titled ‘best female bands’ after listening to two through YouTube links and getting all sorts of rubbishy girl bands. On my third attempt, I thought once again wasting my time, Sugarbabes’ Destiny’s Child’ All Saints and Girls Aloud plus others. I was about to click off when I saw them, yes an insult to them,  there they were, mixed in with the same bunch of the said bands,,                                                                           Yes. oh yes, there they were,  ‘Dixie Chicks,, and then I checked further and found the split band ‘Courtyard Hounds‘ I contacted my fellow blogger friend and we agreed, that the lead singer Natalie Maines was a very close match. We were both laughing, especially me, because I love both these bands and am on the newsletter list of Courtyard Hounds. Not remembering them was actually quite an embarrassment, it was lucky I was on my own.. So my dear friends after all this please enjoy this post and the music from a couple of my favorite bands from a more recent past. Click the links and listen to more or visit You Tube and listen to them, you will not be disappointed..Enjoy..

Courtyard Hounds….

Court Yard Hounds was formed in 2009 when Maguire and Robison wanted to return to the studio.

The duo’s project was announced in January 2010 and the album features Emily Robison on lead vocals. Robison has said that the album is “very personal” and that she will be joined by Jakob Dylan on a track called “See You in the Spring”.They are signed to Columbia Records and released their self-titled debut album on May 4, 2010. Their first public appearance as Court Yard Hounds was on March 18, 2010 at the Americana Music Association‘s SXSW showcase in Austin, Texas. Lead singer Emily Robison has also confirmed there will be songs based on her divorce from Charlie Robison in 2008. According to Rolling Stone Magazine, while Robison is on lead vocals backed up by her sister Martie, the band consists of Natalie Maines’ father, Lloyd Maines, on guitar, and other members are members from the Dixie Chicks’ backing band; the album was also recorded in Maguire’s home studio. According to Maguire and Robison, the Dixie Chicks have not parted ways.[6] Along with plans from The Dixie Chicks to tour with the Eagles and Keith Urban, starting in 2010, the duo plans to release a follow-up album sometime in 2012. … info via Wikipedia
